RSPCA and Vetwest Animal Hospitals working together

We are delighted to announce a new partnership with the RSPCA. As part of our new venture we will be providing a range of much needed services for the inspectorate. We will also be working together on other initiatives to assist in the welfare and care of animals who are in a less fortunate situation then those we see in our practices.

Microchips – not just for cats and dogs

It's not everyday we see a Koala at our hospitals but recently we were very lucky to have a visit from the Yanchep National Park Koalas. During their check-ups the Vetwest Wanneroo team put their microchipping skills to work. Inserting a uniquely coded chip in each Koala will allow wildlife carers to easily identify the Koalas when captured in the park.

Find out more about microchipping here.

A downstream adventure for Vetwest Whitfords team

Our pet healthcare teams are faced with a mix of exciting and emotional challenges on a daily basis. Intensive surgery, dealing with emergencies, telling pet owners the prognosis of their pet - both good and bad news as well as putting on a friendly face each and every time a new pet walks through our front doors. There's no doubt about it our team work hard and do a fantastic job at treating thousands of WA pets. From time to time they also take an opportunity to let their hair down.

Pew, don't kiss the cat or dog! Aren't all pets supposed to have bad breath?

Myth! Cats and dogs should not have bad breath. If your pet does have bad breath then chances are they may have a problem with their teeth or gums. Unlike us humans, pets typically do not enjoy the benefits of regular dental homecare such as teeth brushing, flossing, and mouth wash rinsing. So over time a buildup of tartar, gum disease and infection occurs, all of which will require intensive dental veterinary care. Along with this your pet will also have one heck of a mouth ache and of course that icky smelly breath you may already know. This month we are celebrating "National Pet Dental Month" to create awareness about the importance of clean teeth and gums in pets. Make sure you check out our special dental care page and look out for our special offers this month!

Thank you for helping us to 'Free the Bears'

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday 30th March for the Bear Paw Walk. The ENTIRE proceeds from the Bear Paw Walk go directly to benefit rescued and exploited bears. Once bears are rescued they need medical care, housing, and food for life. We are proud to announce that funds were raised this year to sponsor five rescued bears. ‘Hero’, (Sloth bear) in India, ‘Kayasin’ (Asiatic black bear) in Laos and ‘Brandy’ (Golden Asiatic black bear) and ‘Donna’ (Cambodian Sunbear) in Cambodia. These bears will not only continue to benefit from the funds raised by this event but in addition, we have been able to sponsor ‘Mian’, a young female Cambodian Sunbear rescued by Free the Bears Fund in 2005.

Take a 'bow', famous canines get their own 'Walk of fame'

The first ever permanent 'Dog Walk of Fame' has recently been unveiled in London! Honouring the legends of the silver screen such as Lassie, Toto (from the Wizard of Oz), Gromit (from Wallace and Gromit), Fang (from the Harry Potter movies) and more. Each year a new dog will join the 'walk' and be commemorated with a plaque and a bench at the heart of famous Battersea Park.
