On the 9th of October 2015, Dr Yolande Oosthuizen of Vetwest Currambine, completed a 100km course to raise money and awareness for Oxfam Australia.

The event the Oxfam Trailwalker, started at the Darlington Oval, navigating through challenging bushland and stunning national parks, and finished in Lesmurdie.

During the challenge, teams of four had 48 hours to walk or run the 100 km trail.

The event raises vital funds for Oxfam Australia.  Oxfam is an independent, secular, non-government organisation working in more than 28 countries and Indigenous Australia. Dr Yolande’s team successfully raised over $2000 to help some of the world’s poorest people. Their fundraising enables Oxfam to continue its work delivering projects that support orphans and people affected by HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa, that educate people in Laos on efficient farming techniques and that improve Indigenous health and wellbeing in regional Australia.

The work that Oxfam does is vital to so many people worldwide and 100km is a long way to walk!  But putting themselves through months of intense training to walk 100km is worth it for the impact their fundraising has on others through Oxfam Australia’s programs.

If you would like to support the work of Oxfam your donation can make a real difference.

About Dr Yolande Oosthuizen

I have always been a bit of an adventurer. Climbing mountains and walking the trails whenever I could, most recently I have been participating in marathons around WA.

This year I will be celebrating my 5th year anniversary as a Veterinarian with Vetwest by walking a very long way.   The work that Oxfam is doing around the world to erase poverty is such a worthy course.

As a Veterinarian I have a keen interest in small animal eye care, dealing with the more challenging eye cases along with the general practice work.

When I’m not looking into animals eyes I can be found pounding the pavement and trails around Perth or at home with my husband, young son, crazy staffy and lazy cat….
