Vetwest has been a proud partner of the RSPCA WA for over 10 years, supporting them with veterinary services, including sensitive cases. Once again, the team joined the community in the RSPCA’s major fundraising event of the year, the Million Paws Walk, which has had a hiatus for three years due to COVID.

This year our focus was on scanning microchips and making sure they were registered. At Vetwest we have recently implemented new technology that can instantly tell whether the scanned pet is registered with any of the Microchip registries across Australia.

Perth put on a beautiful day for the Million Paws Walk 2023. A large number of people visited the Vetwest tent to say ‘Hi’ and receive gifts from the team. During the event we scanned 159 dogs and found 53 that were not registered, which alarmingly is a third of the dogs we scanned.

When a lost pet is taken into a vet the microchip is scanned and the owners’ details are retrieved via a Microchip registry. For those that are not registered we would not be able reunite the pet with their owner, which shows the value of checking microchips as well as making sure all details are kept up to date.

It is important to note that council registration is different to a microchip registration.

We encourage all clients to visit any of our locations and scan your pets. If they are found to not be registered, the team can complete the registration and they will immediately be registered with a Microchip registry.
