Changes to the Dog Act in Western Australia will mean every dog needs to be microchipped.

If you already own a dog in Western Australia, he/ she must be microchipped by 1st November 2015.

From 1st November 2013, all new dogs were required to be microchipped for the purpose of identification and registration. Registered dogs that were transferred to new owners after 1 November 2013 had to be microchipped before they were sold or transferred.

As of 1st November 2013, all cats were required to be microchipped.

For more information see the Government of Western Australia fact sheet or Dog Amendment Bill 2013

Microchipping will help local governments to readily identify lost and stray dogs and to quickly reunite them with their owners. This will reduce the period of impoundment and overall costs and inconvenience to owners.
