In a heartwarming display of community support, Vetwest Animal Hospital Cockburn and Bibra Lake recently assisted the RSPCA to offer vital pet care services to local families struggling with the rising cost of living. The free community event, which took place in collaboration with the RSPCA, attracted approximately 140 attendees, all eager to access essential veterinary care and supplies for their pets.
Health Checks, Microchipping, and Parasite Treatments
The Vetwest team was on hand to provide free health checks for local dogs, with 59 dogs receiving a thorough examination. These health checks gave pet owners an opportunity to address any concerns and receive professional advice on how to better care for their animals, something that might otherwise have been out of reach due to financial constraints.
In addition to the health checks, the event offered free microchipping services. A total of 17 dogs were microchipped, helping to ensure they can be safely reunited with their owners if they ever get lost. Another three dogs were also registered to the City of Cockburn by local rangers. For pet owners, microchipping is an affordable and essential way to safeguard their pets, providing peace of mind that their pets will have the best chance of being returned if they go missing.
Moreover, 94 units of parasite treatments were distributed, protecting pets from common pests like fleas, ticks, and worms. These treatments are crucial for pet health, and this service ensured that many local pets were able to stay protected without the financial strain.

The generosity didn’t stop at medical care. Over 220kg of pet food was handed out, helping to ease the burden on families who may be struggling to provide for their pets. In addition, a wide range of essential pet supplies, including coats, leads, toys, harnesses, and collars, were distributed to ensure that pets had the tools they need to stay comfortable and safe. These supplies are often essential but can be costly for families, so the donations made a significant impact.
