Fox Terrier

Fondly referred to as the ‘Foxie’, this little power packet of a dog was originally favoured for use in the sport of fox hunting. The Foxie was charged with chasing foxes from drains and refuge holes below the ground. An alert companion with a beautifully refined structure, the Fox Terrier is now a popular breed choice amongst pet owners.

The Foxie is an energy bundle who is very alert and keen to sound the alarm if an intrusion is expected. They are clean and well mannered in the house. However, as enthusiastic exercisers and active companions, Foxie’s will soon succumb to boredom if left alone for long periods and without any form of entertainment.

There are two kinds of Fox Terriers, smooth and wire coated. The wire coated Foxie requires a higher level of grooming care than the smooth coated variety. To keep the wire coat manageable and knot free we recommend professional clipping every 8-12 weeks. A weekly combing from head to toe with a metal comb, will keep the coat at bay in between clipping. At the same time check underneath the paws and remove any burs or foreign bodies which are often caught in between the toes. For both varieties check and trim the dew claws regularly.

The Fox Terrier adores exercise and are always ready for a game. Daily walking is essential. This tenacious and tireless companion is a fast mover with lightning-quick reactions, and will play in the park for hours on end.
