One of the most elegant and athletic of canine breeds, the Greyhound is also one of the most gentle. Whilst their “prey” drive, or urge to chase moving animals or objects is well developed they nonetheless make wonderful companions.
There are two types of Greyhound recognised by canine organisations, one being the “show” dog bred principally for good looks and temperament and the “racing” dog for which the breeding criteria is speed. Both types of Greyhound make excellent pets and throughout Australia there are organisations which actively rehome retired or unsuitable racing dogs.
The colour of a Greyhound is immaterial and they may be found in colours ranging from pure black to pure white, with all the intermediary reds, blues, brindles and parti-colours.

Temperament
The greyhound is quiet, loyal, lovable, gentle and clean. They are affectionate and adore human contact. They get along with most other pets, however their natural instincts may compel them to round up smaller animals from time to time.
Lifespan
12 – 15 years.
Grooming and care
With short and close hair, the greyhound sheds very little and requires minimal grooming to keep their sleek coat in good condition.
Exercise
Whilst a Greyhound will enjoy a daily walk, they can be quite lazy and will be content to laze on the sofa! To keep your greyhound healthy and trim we recommend regular daily exercise.
