This little dog takes the name from the French word for butterfly – papillon. Not only do they have large fringed ears closely resembling a butterfly’s wings, but also a thin white blaze between the ears, bisecting the face, that suggests the insect’s body.A true inspiration to many famous artists including Rembrandt, and a favourite lap dog among ladies of the royal courts over 500 years ago, the Papillon makes a wonderful and affectionate companion.

Temperament
Papillons are lively, affectionate, and intelligent and can be taught tricks and obedience easily. They are not nearly as delicate as their appearance might suggest and make highly effective vermin hunters when given the opportunity. Their small size however should be considered by families with other larger dogs, or small children. However, Papillons mix easily with other pets and children.

Grooming and care
Despite the long coat, the Papillon’s fur does not have a thick undercoat however it does shed. Making regular grooming necessary and straight forward.
Exercise
Papillons enjoy daily exercise and as companion dogs need human interaction. They will not live happily if left alone in a backyard for long periods of time.
