Originated from Singapore as their name suggests, the Singapura is also known as “drain cats” due to their habit of living in drains and gutters. The name Singapura is the Malaysian word for Singapore. It is believed the Singapuras were bred from other cats from all over the world.
Appearance
The Singapura looks a lot like the Abyssinian but they are a much smaller breed. The Singapura has a small, muscular body with a rounded head, a short muzzle and a blunt nose. Their eyes are big and are either hazel, green or yellow. They have ears that are large and taper. The breed has a short coat that is light beige in colour.

Temperament
The Singapura has a lively and active with an inquisitive and mischievous nature. They are very affectionate and friendly, and love human interaction. They enjoy sitting on their owner’s lap or shoulder, as well as being high above the ground and will often find bookshelves to rest on.
The breed is suitable for homes with children and other pets, and is also suited to indoor life.
Grooming and care
Due to their short coat, the Singapura sheds very little and does not require regular grooming. A brush once a week is sufficient to keep their coat clean and healthy.
